Associate Circuit Judge Rebecca L. Spencer

Judge Rebecca L. Spencer received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1996.  She received her law degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1999.

Upon graduation from Law School, Judge Spencer was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Buchanan County until May of 2001.  She then served as the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of St. Joseph until December of 2014.  She also served as the Municipal Judge for the City of Easton, Missouri for seven years.  She served as the president of the St. Joseph Bar Association in 2012.  Judge Spencer was elected Associate Circuit Judge in 2015 and re-elected in 2018 and 2022.  Her present term expires December 31, 2026.

Judge Rebecca L. Spencer presides over a variety of civil cases, including cases where the amount of controversy is $25,000.00 or less, small claims actions and landlord tenant cases. In addition, she presides over felony and misdemeanor charges of non-support and misdemeanor criminal cases in Buchanan County.  She also presides over preliminary hearings in Buchanan County on criminal felony complaints.

Judge Spencer currently resides in St. Joseph, Missouri with her three children.
